It took three years to complete "The Emergence", a very ambitious steampunk inspired project, made with very few ressources, and no budget at all...
Started in 2018, shot during late summer of the same year, but then put on hold for the time Jocelyn Harp had to spend in China, the film's post-production stage finally started in January 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world.
With more than a 100 VFX shots, many being entirely computer generated, displaying 3D landscapes, seas, forests, particles, smoke and fluid simulations, and a fully modeled, rigged, textured and animated dragon, Jocelyn could use the time provided by the lockdown in France to complete all the visual effects inside of the open source software Blender 3D.

Benjamin Tassin composed and interpreted every music piece for the film on his laptop, back in Thailand. His ending track inspired the final sequence of the short film, that never existed in the original script.
Y.H.Echo Du had to recreate an entire 5.1 soundscape from scratch, compensating the very poor audio quality recorded on set.

This short film is a very special project, as it is the last Teal Moon Pictures short film produced in a "guerilla filmmaking" way, among friends, with total creative freedom, and no time restrictions...

The short film "Reflective Blue" is Jocelyn Harp's first international project, shot during his year in Shanghai, China, in 2019, with a chinese crew, and american actors.
The script was written in english, then translated in chinese, for the crew and partners to read.
The producers of the short film, Ziyi Chen and Jade Wang, got in touch with almost every aquarium in the Shanghai area before finding the newly opened HaiChang Ocean Park, nearly two hours away from Shanghai. Throughout the writing process, the director had to change many times the species of sea creatures the boy would be interracting with, since not every aquarium were displaying the same animals.

As soon as pre-production started in december 2018, Jocelyn partnered once more with the artist Léopold Kalinda, and started discussing the music with Nicolas Pajusco, with more than 8000 killometers separating them.

Y.H.Echo Du created an entire Soundscape for the film, that would then earn the short film many awards in the Best Sound Design festivals categories.

The short film "Lilly's Wait" was shot during winter 2016, in the South Alps of France. Founded on an idea inspired by the concept of a Los Angeles Film Festival contest, the "Rabbit and Rogue Challenge", for wich the rule was using a music piece from Danny Elfman (composer of many Tim Burton films)'s "Rabbit and Rogue" ballet album.
The music piece that inspired the script, as well as almost every shot of this short film was the 9 minutes track called "Gamelan".
To create the scenes wih the rabbits in the snow, and bring them on the mountains for filming, two crew members were carrying one rabbit each, in warm, thermal blanket covered backpacks.

Lilly's Wait got selected for the Rabbit and Rogue Challenge organized by Indi.com and the LAFF, then finalist of the contest, but not selected as a winner, in June 2017.

In 2017, the short film screened at the 2nd edition of the french "J.Court Jeunes" festival, taking place in Lyon.

In April 2018, Lilly's Wait was awarded of a prestigious Gold Remi Award at the WorldFest Houston 51st.

(2015)

"The Fingertip Touch" emerged after a chaotic two weeks shoot, during summer 2016, originally planned for shooting a fantasy web-series. Only 3 days out of 12 allowed the team to shoot, after almost two weeks of terrible weather conditions, and the influenza speading among the crew members.
With nearly the whole team recovering in bed, Jocelyn Harp and the remaining 4 healthy crew members, started working on "The Fingertip Touch", with the hope not to return empty-handed. It was a very simple concept, the script was written in few hours, inspired by the actors themselves.
The sequences were shot in two days, using the locations spotted for the previous project, with a main actress, Matilda Marty, slowly succombing to the sickness, but helped by a marvelous weather, allowing to shoot in natural light.

During post-production, Jocelyn Harp used music tracks from the world-wide renowned musician Adam Young's "Scores" project, as inspirations for the edit. Short after the completion of "The Fingertip Touch", Adam Young launched an online short film competition, with the rule of using his scores.
Jocelyn decided to keep the inspirational tracks as they were in the edit.

Rêve Printanier
(2015)

"Rêve Printanier"'s concept was inspired by the the atmosphere and decors of the "Croix-Rousse" hill district in Lyon city. It was shot during winter 2015, with a very reduced crew and almost no equipment at all.
The story, told linearly, follows a path throughout the entire Croix-Rousse district, crossing many symbolic areas, shops, and parks.
"Le Phono" teahouse and the "La Fabrique de thé" tea shop, very kindly allowed the crew to shoot some of the scenes in their facilities.

The short film premiered at the very 1st edition of the J-Court Festival in 2016, a short film festival created for the young aspiring filmmakers of Lyon to showcase their creativity. The premiere took place in the old and beautiful movie theater of St-Denis, iconic of the "Croix-Rousse" district.
Jocelyn Harp later received a letter from Lyon's mayor David Kimelfeld, who saw the movie.

Jocelyn Harp

Writer / Director

Jocelyn was born in Lyon, France, and has been passionate about cinema and storytelling, creating his own short films, since the age of 10. It is while being a teenager, and facing health issues, that his fascination for films reached a peak, motivating him to learn the filmmaking process as well as English and Chinese. As soon as he could, he started to write, produce and direct his own short films and put them into numerous festivals in France and internationally.
In 2018, Jocelyn’s short film Lilly's Wait was selected, then winner of the prestigious Gold Remi Award at the 51st international film festival WorldFest Houston, in the student short film category. Previous winners of this award include Steven Spielberg, Ridley Scott, George Lucas, the Cohen brothers. Jocelyn is one of the youngest filmmakers to ever win the Gold (at the age of 19).
After finally obtaining his specialized Scientific High School Diploma, he went to China for a year, where he managed, produced, and directed his first international project, "Reflective Blue", with a Chinese crew and American actors.

About the Project

Teal Moon Pictures is a project initiated by Jocelyn Harp in 2015, with the purpose of gathering a few talented and passionate young artists to create innovative and original short films, with very low/no budget and ressources.
Once every year since 2015, the group of friends would reunite for one week, and start filming an original script, at a chosen location, suited for the story, usually in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in France.
These unique events were the occasion for the crew to learn every step of a professional film production, from prep to post, having to deal with location scouts, catering, weather conditions, gear, transportation, and all sorts of unexpected problems, perfecting their workflow and overall management over the years.
The few projects showcased on this website, are "guerilla filmmaking" at their core, made with love and passion, by a group of long-time friends, all of them craving for the same thing, Storytelling.
